RAGA SANGEETA

A very warm welcome to the School of Raga Sangeeta, the youngest new music and Art learning center dedicated to excellence in Odissi vocal music and Art education. The School of Raga Sangeeta is a small but growing music and learning centre. The institute committed to offer a fun and effective learning atmosphere and believes that it is important for both children and adults to enjoy learning instead of viewing it as a chore.

Although we believe in a traditional approach, our lessons reflect modern thinking on how to learn vocal music, Art most effectively and small classes allows for a very personal approach to learning.

The institute offers Vocal Music, Guitar, Dance, Art, Drawing and Painting Classes for all ages – beginner to advanced

Our Art, Drawing and Painting Course Starts from basic –Understanding of Straight line -Curved Lines -Shapes -Shading -Black & White -Understanding Colours -Shapes converting to figures -Move on to make on own art work

The institute offers both MUSIC HOBBY COURSES and Certification Courses. The School Of Raga Sangeeta affiliated with Pracheen Kala Kendra, Chandigarh.

The institute offers MUSIC HOBBY COURSES. Hobby classes are for the individual of any age group or any profession, interested in learning Odissi vocal music and Art for the joy of learning and willing to continue the learning process without the boundary of any prescribed time duration of the course, curriculum, syllabus and examination.

The admission for Music hobby class is available all through the year with fresh batches starting every week. The classes for the desired course could be started from the same week itself, subject to availability of the desired time schedule.

During learning the theory and practice of Odissi vocal music, student learns about music - knowledge of Odissi vocal music, sound and its origin, scales, notes (notations), many Ragas and Raga based musical compositions, Talas (teen taal etc.), Rhythms, Alankars, light classical etc. The Odissi vocal music student learns many of the following ragas: Bhupali, Kafi, Bhairav, Bihag, Yaman, Alhaiya Bilawal, Bage shri, Durga, Aashawari, Bhairavi, Virndawani, Bhimpalasi, Desh, Tilak Kamod, Khamaj, Hamir, Kedar, Tilang, Kalingda, Patdeep, Malkauns, Pilu, Deshkar, Shankra and Jaunpuri etc.

Our Founder

Kids

Smita Sahoo (M.MUS, M.Phil)

Founder of “The School of Raga Sangeeta” is a teacher and performer. Smita received her Master of Music (Odissi Vocal) from Utkal University of Culture, Bhubaneswar, Odisha. She earned National Scholarship Award in the field of Odissi Music (Dance and Dance Music) from Govt. of India, ministry of culture, New Delhi, in the year 2009. Smita was awarded with a certificate of recognition from state council for artistic research and training (SCART), Odisha, in the year 2010.

She has been selected for Junior Research Fellowship for year 2014-2015 by Ministry of Culture, Government of India and currently pursuing her reaserch in Odissi Music.

She is also a regular General vocal Artist, All INDIA RADIO, Cuttack since 2011. Smita has been teaching Odissi vocal for Six years.

Experienced at teaching all ages and levels of vocal music. Her teaching philosophy is simple. Everyone should be exposed to music and have a basic understanding of it. The teacher must strive to meet the student where they are, in regards to their learning style and level, and encourage and challenge them as they grow. When a student studies music they should gain a basic knowledge even if they don't continue music for an extended period. The discipline and skills required to play music can be used to better them in life.

Her top priority is focusing on the individual needs and goals of students while making learning odissi vocal music a fun and creative process.
